DOERUN – James J. Varnadoe, 83, of Doerun, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Sylvester Health Care, Sylvester.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, at Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Benton officiating. Interment will follow in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
Casketbearers will be Bart Davis, Alan Varnadoe, Baird Varnadoe, Sammy Massey, Kevin Hatcher, Jimmy Boyles, Archie Hatcher and Earl Massey.
Born March 23, 1925 in Colquitt Co., he was the son of the late James Monroe Varnadoe and Ruby Smith Varnadoe. Mr. Varnadoe was a World War II Army Veteran and as a retired farmer. He was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of Doerun.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hatcher Varnadoe of Sylvester; two sons, Donald Varnadoe and wife Margie of St. Simons Island and Larry Varnadoe of Doerun; two grandchildren, Jason Varnadoe and Carrie Varnadoe; one great-grandchild, Fisher Varnadoe.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Cobb Funeral Chapel. The family may be contacted at the residence in Doerun.
CAMILLA – Funeral services for Mr. Alfonzo Wheeler, of Baconton, will be conducted on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 3 p.m. from the New Salem M.B. Church, Baconton. Interment will follow in the New Salem Church Cemetery.
