James Theodore Gordon
DAWSON James Theodore JT Gordon, 95, of Dawson, passed away peacefully
with his family by his side on Friday, May 23, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial
Hospital, Albany, GA. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 26,
2008 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Albany. The Rev. Dr. Daniel
Simmons will officiate. Interment to follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Dawson.
Mr. Gordon was born January 10, 1913 in Ochlocknee, GA to the late James
Sylvester Gordon and Arsenia Gordon. He was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary
Baptist Church, Albany. A graduate of Tuskegee Institute (Tuskegee
University), Tuskegee, AL. Mr. Gordon began his career in education as a
Vocational Agriculture Instructor in the Terrell County School System. He was
principal at Dunbar Elementary School, Sasser, GA, and later principal at
Lillie Cooper Elementary School, Dawson.
After retiring, Mr. Gordon worked as a salesman at Arnold Chevrolet and as a
Terrell County Tax Assessor. He served as Chairman of the Dawson Housing
Authority Board, and was on the Board of the Terrell County Department of
Family and Childrens Services (DFACS). Mr. Gordon was selected as the Terrell
County Chamber of Commerces Man of the Year in 1993. He was a World War II
Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Avon Gordon, sisters,
Marie Gordon Lindsay and Agnes Gordon Jackson.
Mr. Gordon is survived by his wife, Kathryn Jackson Gordon; daughter, Kay
Gordon Brandon, and her husband, Donald G. Brandon of Greensboro, NC;
daughter, Theodora Patricia Gordon Thea, of Fayetteville, GA; grandson,
Donald Gordon Brandon Brandy, of Lake Charles, LA; brothers, Odis Gordon of
Cleveland, OH, Earl Gordon (Louise) of Tallahassee, FL; sisters, Connie Gordon
Bass of Atlanta, Juanita Gordon Dunnom (Daniel) of Chicago, IL; and a host of
nieces and nephews and close friends.

James Shriver Schnieders
FOLEY, AL James Shriver Schnieders, 88, of Foley, AL, formerly of Albany
died Friday, May 23, 2008.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. (CST) on Tuesday, May 27 at St.
Margarets Catholic Church and burial will follow in Barrancas National
Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.
Mr. Schnieders was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 15, 1920. He was part
of the first USAF (Army Air Corp) Regiment to arrive to establish the Brookley
Air Force Base. He was also a life member of Knights of Columbus.
Survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris May (Thomas) Schnieders of Foley,
AL; two sons, James (Elizabeth) Schnieders of New Orleans, LA, and Charles
(Julia) Thomas Schnieders of Liberty, MO; and 10 grandchildren, and three
great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today (Monday) at Pine Rest Funeral Home from 5
p.m.-7 p.m. (CST) in Foley, AL.

Samuel Stephens
DAWSON Retired MSGT (United States Air Force) Samuel Stephens, 66, of 419
Robinson Ave., Albany, GA, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Gethsemane
Worship Center, 529 10th Ave., Albany. Bishop Frederick Williams will
officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens, Albany.
Bro. Stephens was born July 27, 1941 to the late Milton and Doris Stephens
in Franklin, GA.
His education was received in the public schools of Heard County, GA.
Bro. Stephens was a proud 20 year Veteran of the United States Air Force,
obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Meritorious Service
Medal in 1979 for outstanding service to our country between October 1975 and
August 1979. He also held the following decorations, medals, badges, citations
and campaign ribbons during the military career: Bronze Star Medal; AF
Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; Humanitarian Service Medal; AF
Longevity Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters; National Defense Service
Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; AF Outstanding Unit Award; Republic of Vietnam
Campaign Medal; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and an AF Good
Conduct Medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters. MSGT Stephens was so unselfish; he
refused to accept a Purple Heart. After retirement in 1982, Samuel began his
second career as a civilian employee of the United States Army. In his spare
time, he enjoyed sports, reading and working on cars.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his passing,
his wife, Prophet Annett Stephens of Albany; one son, Tracy Stephens (Kim);
two daughters, Terry McFall and Natasha Wakefield (Kim); mother-in-law,
Morlene Wilson of Albany; two sisters, Gladys Hall and Dorothy Stephens, both
of Cleveland, OH; two brothers, Jimmy Stephens (Yolanda) of Albany and Jerry
Stephens of Cleveland, OH; seven stepchildren, Peaches Wilson, Steven Wilson
(LaToya), Kogi Daniels (Lamar), Sandra Hammond, Nikki Williams, Qinasha
Jefferson and Nethemia Lowman, all of Albany; 11 grandchildren, Chatel McFall,
Veronica Stephens, Tristan Wakefield, Jaden Wakefield, Latia Russ, Rashawn
Gammage, Hailey Hammond, Eddie Jenkins, Edward Jenkins, Kennedy Hammond and
Emanuel Wilson; two sisters-in-law, Paula Burnett and Flora Brown (June);
three brothers-in-law, Rev. Alex Wilson, Henry Lee Wilson Jr. and Ronnie
Harris; two God children, Tamia Spann and Minister Vonya Muldrow; and a host
of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other God children, cousins and friends.
