John Oliver Anthony

ALBANY — John Oliver Anthony, 95, of 1205 Avalon Ave., Albany died May 26, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be Saturday 3 P.M. at the Hopewell Baptist Church, Arlington. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Johnny Kegler will officiate.

Mr. Anthony was born February 8, 1913 in Calhoun Co. He attended Calhoun Co. Public Schools. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Bridges Anthony of Albany, two sons, Mr. Charlie Lee Anthony (Ethel) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL. and Friday Lee Anthony (Rutha Lee) of Albany, five daughters, Jessie Mae Reed, of Albany, Bertha Mae Miles of Jacksonville, FL., Annie Levon Gregoir of Albany, Annie Vera Brown (Eddie) of Albany, Mary Frances Anthony of Albany, one sister, Jessie Robinson of Atlanta, 29 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Minnie Jones of Renza.

The remains of Mr. Anthony will be in the church Saturday from 2:30 P.M. until the funeral hour.

J.W. Hicks, Sr.

ALBANY — Mr. J.W. Hicks, Sr., 89, of 633 Zackery Dr., Albany died MAy 25, 2008 at Albany Health Care Center. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 A.M. at Third Kiokee Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Union Park Cemetery. Rev. Levi Breedlove will officiate.

Mr. Hicks was born October 28, 1918 in Terrell Co. He attended Sumter Co. Public Schools. He was from retired USSR Agriculture Chemical Company and debitor for the Oglethorpe Benevolent Society for over 46 years and was a member of the Deacon Board, 33rd Degree Mason, King Soloman Lodge {pound}14 and a member of the Third Kiokee Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mattie H. Moreland (Eddie James) and Ruthie Tucker both of Albany and Mary Thompson of Milwaukee, WI., four sons, John W. Hicks, Jr., Cleveland Hicks, Paul Hicks and Silas Hicks (Juliette) all of Albany. A very devoted cousin, Mrs. Charlie Mae Sellers of Uteca, NY, 19 grand’s, 28 great grand’s and 15 great great grandchildren.

The remains of Mr. Hicks will be in the church in Saturday from 10 A.M. until the funeral hour.

Thad Watson Hudson

DAWSON — Thad Watson Hudson, 87, died on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. The funeral service will be held at the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery at 11 A.M., Friday, May 30, with Rev. David Felton and Rev. Rodney Hudson officiating.

Born in Webster Co., Mr. Hudson was the son of the late James Jackson Hudson and Lucy Pate Hudson. He had resided in Dawson since 1977 moving from Albany. He was a veteran of the US Army serving with Company A 45th Tank Battalion in WWII. He was a retired insurance agent with the Life of Georgia Insurance Company.

He was a member of the Dawson Presbyterian Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thad “Pete” Hudson Jr.

Survivors include his wife of many years, Byrnelle Waller Hudson of Dawson; son, Steve Hudson and wife, Carol of Leslie; brother, Sam Hudson of Smith Station, AL.; sister, Mable Tolbert of Columbus; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Earline Walton Jackson

DAWSON — Sis. Earline Walton Jackson, of 905-B Residence Ave. died on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, 532 Oak St., SE., Dawson. Elder Henry Gardner will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Wilbur Gamble Rd. Terrell Co.

Sis. Jackson was born March 10, 1934 to the late Dosie Walton and William Walton in Worth Co. She was raised in Doerun and attended the public schools of Doerun. She was a member of the Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Dawson.

In 1954, she married the late Willie D. Jackson, Sr. and this union was blessed with four children; two preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and will be truly missed by her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Terry Jackson and Tommy Jackson.

Sis. Jackson leaves to mourn her passing, a son, Willie D. Jackson of Albany and his very special friend, Chiquita smith of Donaldsville; daughter, Willie Lene Michelle of Miami, FL.; granddaughter, Racharia Ford of Albany; sister, Girthreen Turner of Albany; brother, Marvin Walton of Doerun; three goddaughters, Beatrice Yancey and Sharon Flowers, both of Albany and Monica Yancey of Louisville, KY. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Lawrence Lofton, Sr.

ALBANY — Lawrence Lofton, Sr. of Newton died May 26, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday 11 A.M. at New Salem CME Church, Newton. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. James A. Hazel, Pastor and Minister Chanita Thompson will officiate.

Mr. Lofton attended Baker Co. Schools. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Stewart Board and a member of New Salem CME Church.

Survivors include his wife, Luebertha Lofton of Newton, three sons, Gerald Lofton (Valerie) of Denver, CO., Lawrence Lofton, Jr. (Lillian) of Atlanta and Walter “Mike” Lofton of Newton, one brother, Mr. Johnale Lofton of Brooklyn, NY., two sisters, Viola Clayton of Brooklyn, NY and Louise Crawford of Albany, a mother-in-law, Josie Miller of Newton and one aunt, Fannie Mack of Augusta, 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

ALBANY — Carolyn Ross, 67, of 880 Rock St., Atlanta died Friday at her residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday at NEw Testament Church at 1 P.M. with interment in Riverside Cemetery.

Cora Lee Whitsett

ALBANY — Mrs. Cora Lee Whitsett, 65, of 134 Pine Ave., Leesburg died May 26, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday at 3 P.M. at Wooden Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piney Grove {pound}3 Baptist Church cemetery. Rev. Joseph Daniels will officiate.

Mrs. Whitsett was born June 30, 1942 in Lee Co. She attended Lee Co. Training School and was a retired production worker at Lee Co. Manufacturing Company. She was a member Wooden Grove Baptist Church, choir member, former member of the Elite Club and former member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include one daughter, Tosha Whitsett of Leesburg, two sons, Thomas Whitsett (Angela) of Jacksonville Beach, FL., and Gerald Whitsett of Albany, four sisters, Minnie Carter, Lula Green, Flora Deariso and Barbara Keith (Willie) all of Albany, three brothers, John Whitsett, Jr. (Alphea) and Robert Whitsett both of Albany, Ulysses Whitsett (Sharon) of Blackwood, NJ, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

The remains of Mrs. Whitsett will be in the church on Saturday form 2 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Rosie B. Williams

ALBANY — Rosie B. Williams, 89, of 739 Madison Dr., Hinesville died May 17, 2008 at her residence. Funeral services will be Saturday at 4 P.M. at 1st Kiokee Baptist Church, Terrell Co. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Leon Pace will officiate.

Rosie was born August 25, 1918 in Terrell Co. She was educated in the Terrell Co. Public School system.

Survivors include five children, Catherine (Wendell) Turner, Atlanta, Jewell (Carl) Coles, CA., Vertice Sterling, Hinesville, Ricky (Sonia) Williams, Atlanta and Loronzo (Gale) Williams, Atlanta; thirteen grandchildren, Gwendolyn Wheeler, Catherine Lamar, Linelle Hammond, Terrence (Cheryl) Johnson, Sherika (Christopher) Townsley, Williams Sterling, Jr., James Sterling, Torie Sterling, Courtney Coles, Victoria Williams, Brittany Coles, Carl Coles II, and Richard Williams; one god grandchild, twelve great grand children; four great-great grandchildren; two nieces; Jan, B.J. and Gail of Odyssey Health Care; host of other relatives and friends.
