Westover boys tied for 4th heading into final day of state track meet

JEFFERSON - The Westover's boys track team is tied for fourth with North Hall at 18 points in the GHSA Class AAA boys state track meet in Jefferson.

Westover's 4x100 team (Rashad Greene, Greg Green, Kenji Breedlove, Cameron McDuffie) finished fourth (42.58 seconds) in their qualifying heat. Green qualified second in the 100 (11.10) and third in the 200 (22.24) and, ccording to Patriots coach Harley Calhoun, was second in its 4x400 heat (3:21.9) with the same relay team except for Brandon Benton instead of McDuffie.

"We came in (Friday) and when you have a three-day track meet, it's very hard to stay perfect for three days," Calhoun said. "We didn't do as good as we wanted to, but we qualified in the four major events we were counting on for big points (today)."

Westover's boys last won state in 2001.

"If you're going to have a bad day, Day 2 is what you want as a bad day," Calhoun said. "We still qualified in what we wanted to. We're going to be ready. "You can run good (Friday) and not (today) and not take home any jewelry,"

Calhoun said, referring to medals and possible state championship rings.
