Lady Eagles soccer opens state playoffs with easy win

  • The Terrell Academy girls soccer team scores four goals during the first 10 minutes and blows out Arlington Christian in the first round of the GISA Class A/AA playoffs.

DAWSON - Terrell Academy's Julie Davis could tell a difference in her team before Saturday's first-round girls soccer state playoff game against Arlington Christian.

"We just put our joking aside and wanted to make a good first impression," she said.

It only took the Lady Eagles 10 minutes to do just that.

Davis scored three of her four goals - including a breakaway netter just 40 seconds into the match - and Morgan Donaldson added another and the Lady Eagles cruised to a 9-3 victory in the GISA Class A/AA playoffs.

"We were really intense, ready to play," Davis said of the 4-0 lead at the time.

The Eagles' next match in the quarterfinals also is at home, only this time against the Holy Spirit/Bulloch Academy winner at a date to be announced.

Worried that his team had played lackadaisical late in the regular season, third-year Terrell Academy coach Patrick Cuff was far from disappointed after Saturday's win.

"It wasn't so much about the other team's play, we just made great passes and shots on goal," he said of the first 10 minutes. "Julie made the comment to Morgan while they were on the sideline that the team worked as well together as it had all season during the match's first 10-to-15 minutes."
